Hi y'all -

First of all the processes for moving scheme-punks to a 2nd level
domain (instead of living inside of cyber-rush.org) has begun. There
has been a large enough uptake and it appears that the expectation
level is running high enough to justify it I think. I have personally
been quite surprised. Thank you all.

Secondly, I would very strongly suggest that you read

http://scheme-punks.cyber-rush.org/wiki/index.php?title=Notes_On_Process

as the end of it has some important commentary about how I intend to
manage things (on the wiki, anyway). I am pretty much of the "let a
million flowers bloom" philosophy here, having been very strongly
influenced by Jeff Siskind's arguments about how Scheme is more a
family of closely related languages than a single language defined by
a tightly controlled standard. I hope to eventually get text put into
my user page explaining that, but I think it is important to say it
now, as we are working on how to accomodate both a diversity of
individual approaches and promote convergence of those various
proposal towards a smaller set of concrete standards.

So I'm a tyrant, but I have no desire to act like one.

And just to prove it, I am tyrannically announcing the first official
"project" under the terms I described on the page referenced above :).
Will Clinger has asked us if we would consider working on an extended
R5RS specification to help guide implementors who are interested in
only adopting parts of R6RS. Harold, Nils, and I all think this is a
good idea (as has been posted to the list), and once the name settles
down I am going to create the first custom namespace and mailing list.

Mind you, I don't think this is why most of you have come here, but
you're under no obligation to participate in the Extended Range R^5RS
work, either. I think it is best that all the other work continue, and
I'm looking forward to seeing more concrete proposals appearing on the
wiki. If anyone feels that ERR^5RS is reducing the emphasis on the
'alternative standard' aspect, be reassured that it is not meant to do
that one bit.
